Carlotta left Colombia with the goal of improving her English. Not only has she successfully progressed from A2 to C1 level in just “nine incredible months,” as she describes it, but it has also turned out to be a multicultural adventure. We asked her about her experience in Malta and why she would recommend inlingua Malta to others looking to learn English.
How have you found Malta so far? What do you like the most?
Carlotta: I love it here! The culture is amazing because it is so multicultural. That is probably my favourite thing—you get to meet so many different people. Everything is so different from my home country, and I love that.
Speaking of meeting people, how many different nationalities have you met in class? Did you connect with anyone in particular?
Carlotta: Oh, so many! I have had classmates from England, Japan, China, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Portugal, Spain, and Germany. I have to say, Japanese people are amazing. But honestly, I love everyone. I have got along with all of them!
It sounds like you have really connected with people! Did you find it easy to make friends in Malta?
Carlotta: Definitely! Everyone comes here open to meeting new people, so I think anyone can become your friend.
Have you ever felt lonely here, though?
Carlotta: Not really, because I like spending time alone. I have loved going for walks, jogging along the coast, or enjoying the beautiful view of Valletta on the other side when walking to school in the morning. It has been absolutely lovely.
Did you always feel safe during these walks?
Carlotta: Very much so. That is one of the reasons why I love this country—you can really learn to be with yourself and meet different people at the same time. And it is also very beautiful.
That is reassuring. What would you say has been the most challenging part of your experience?
Carlotta: Probably getting used to everything here—not because anything is wrong, but moving to a different country always comes with changes. But honestly, I have never had a bad experience here. Never.
And for anyone who is feeling nervous about making the same move, what would you tell them?
Carlotta: Don’t hesitate! It really could be the best experience of your life. I can’t recommend it enough.
Would you recommend inlingua Malta as well?
Carlotta: Absolutely! I love the school’s teaching method. You are not just listening—you are speaking all the time, which helps you learn. And it is fun! It’s not like you are only using the book. On the contrary, you learn by having fun through games and activities. Of course, we use the book too, but the whole approach makes learning enjoyable. I love it!
