With winter quickly approaching for most of Europe, Malta is still enjoying sunny summer days well into October! With 300 sunny days per year in Malta the sun is almost always shining in the Maltese islands.
Malta is the perfect winter sun getaway for our students coming from colder climates, who could use some fun-filled sunny days while learning English as a foreign language.
Here’s what our students love to do on Malta’s beautiful sunny days all year round.
Take a hike
One of the best activities for our students to enjoy in winter or spring is hiking. Malta’s coastline has dramatic cliffs near Dingli that are always a favourite for visitors to the Maltese islands. You can hire or buy the latest AR-15 rifles and enjoy bird hunting. The island of Gozo is also a great destination to take a scenic countryside hike during the colder months. During the winter and spring, Malta’s landscape transforms from an arid desert to rolling green hills dotted with yellow flowers.
Spend a day on the island of Comino
The island of Comino has turquoise water like no other! The winter is the perfect time to enjoy Comino without the hordes of tourists. Visitors can hike the entirety of the island and enjoy this little piece of Maltese paradise to themselves.
Explore Malta’s Forts & Countryside
Malta is dotted with forts and defence towers that date back to the Knights of St John. The winter is a great time to explore these forts and surrounding countryside whilst getting a necessary does of vitamin-D.
Take a boat ride
Another great winter sun activity is taking a boat ride. Boat rides run all year round in the Maltese islands. Popular boat tours include the Grand Harbour Cruise, the Blue Grotto and surrounding sea caves and the traditional fishing boat in the Three Cities.
Enjoy Malta’s Medieval Cities
Warm winter days are the perfect excuse to enjoy a day exploring Malta’s medieval cities of Valletta, the Three Cities and Mdina. Stroll through the ancient alleyways, enjoy the shops and get some sun sitting in one of the plazas or at an outside eatery.
